Sarah Herrmann

American Battle Monuments Commission
Digital Communications Manager

Sarah Herrmann, who serves as the Digital Communications Manager at the American Battle Monuments Commission, joined the agency in November 2011. During her tenure, she has transformed the agency’s efforts in web and social media. She led the redesign and launch of ABMC.gov—leading to ABMC.gov being ranked in the Top 10 Best Government Websites based on metrics from the Foresee Customer Service Survey. Sarah began ABMC’s external, digital newsletter, and still serves as manager and editor. The development and deployment of the agency’s six smartphone applications occurred under her guidance with the Normandy American Cemetery app winning first place from the National Association of Interpreters in the Digital Media category. ABMC’s presence on Facebook, YouTube and Instagram grows annually—garnering new audiences and ways for the public to learn more about the agency’s efforts, including the deployment of Facebook Live. Sarah is also involved with ABMC’s education efforts, and video production efforts. Sarah attended and covered the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings at Normandy American Cemetery for ABMC’s digital channels, and she’s interviewed.

Prior to her arrival at ABMC, Sarah worked at the George Washington University Medical Center and the National Institutes of Health, where her public affairs work focused on healthcare and scientific research. During her time at GW and NIH, Sarah led special events that featured VIP guests to include Maya Angelou, Jane Goodall, Nobel Laureates, and Cabinet-level Secretaries.  Sarah, who hails from Ohio, graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Mount Union with a Bachelor’s degree in both English and Communications. She then went on to receiver her Master’s Degree from George Washington University in Political Management.
